LCTA Parent Academy: Teachers Teaching Parents
The LCTA Parent Academy is an evening event presented by our teachers to equip parents with tools and approaches for teaching and reinforcing academic content at home. Initiated by a math teacher in the 2010-2011 school year to help her students' parents understand the changes in approaches to teaching math, the program met with great success. In the 2011-2012 school year, the Parent Academy was expanded to both math and language arts with 12 teachers participating. Teachers who go above and beyond the standard school day and requirements by helping parents so that they can better help their students is a shining example of the pervasiveness of the character education program at LCTA.
