Living Your Choices
Beginning in August, 2010, our faculty formed teams of 4-5 teachers each that assumed the responsibility of developing a PowerPoint and interactive presentation for a monthly lesson in our Academic Enrichment Period (AEP) the last 30 minutes of our school day. Each lesson centers around one chapter of Covey's book: "Living a Principle Centered Life", "Be Proactive", "Changing from the Inside", "Think Win Win", etc. Each month, classroom teachers are coached in a faculty meeting about the upcoming presentation and given the necessary resources for their meetings. Each team is expected to design a multimedia presentation, discussion questions, and any other necessary resources for the lesson. Additional lessons were incorporated to supplement these: Joe Coles's "Being Your Best Self", Quantum Learning "Living Above the Line", Josten's "Pause Before You Post", and a portable ropes course offered by Greenbush. AEP groups are kept small - from 15-25 students for these sessions to facilitate discussion and participation. AEPs are, by design, mixed groups of students grade 9-12. Ninth graders are also completing P2A Focuses 1-4 this year with the intent of doing Year 2 as sophomores.
