Kids of Character Focus Groups
The Kids of Character Focus groups are designed to bring out leadership qualities in students. At McKelvey we place a strong importance on educating the whole child. Therefore our focus groups allow us to develop children from an academic as well as a moral perspective while giving them voice and choice. Not only are students learning essentials skills that will help them in a school environment, they are acquiring important life-long skills. Students are becoming problem solvers and critical thinkers, who lead class meeting discussions to make sure all student voices are heard. This is designed to bring out leadership qualities in students. Focus groups include; ambassadors, abilities awareness, red ribbon week, recess patrol, reading week, principal advisory, Green Team, student council, announcements, and special persons day. Some focus groups such as principal advisory meet monthly to discuss the code of conduct and adjustments that need to be made to ensure all students are successful. Other groups meet to plan events such as our red ribbon group and abilities awareness group that meet before and during the event to plan and implement the activities.
