Climbing Toward Our Everest Goals
The Everest theme begins the first day of school with students working on team-building with their Teacher Advisory (TA) group. There is a mix of assemblies showing a video of staff sharing their dream goals, watching the iMax Everest movie and listening to Eric Larson share his experience reaching the peak of Everest. Throughout the day we talked about the perseverance, courage, and positive attitude needed to reach your goals. The first day is an energizing start, but the rest of the year follows suit. Students work with their TA teacher to set a personal dream goal for themselves, and lay out a plan to work that goal. In May students gather to share a visual representation of their plan on a final Everest day. Throughout the year, TA teachers share inspirational stories during TA time, (1st 20 minutes of each day). Speakers paced throughout the year come to share their dream and how they tried to reach it. The beauty of Everest is the academic tie to learning about culture and diversity in a unique and inspiring way.
