Muskogee Public Schools Character Camps
As of June 2012, Muskogee Public Schools (MPS) will have conducted its 12th Annual Character Camp. Each year approximately 150 to 180 students in 5th through 8th grades attend a two day/one night retreat at a lake-side conference center about 45 miles from our community. Ten elementary schools and one junior high school select students to attend based upon their character and their commitment to return equipped and determined to positively affect the culture of their schools. In addition, each school group is joined by a staff member who is the Character Club sponsor and about 20 high school students who act as facilitators of activities. During the two days students are involved in many teambuilding activities, including a ropes course, they hear special speakers who lead them in the development of personal character, and they have multiple opportunities to work in action groups with their club sponsor. The primary purpose of the camp is to allow each sponsor and her/his students to develop their plan of building character at their school during the upcoming year.
