Eyes Wide Open: Know What Your Kids Know
Eyes Wide Open: Know What Your Kids Know is a community event whose purpose is to educate and empower our parents of students in grades 5-12. Concerned community members are also encouraged to attend. The schools as well as other important stakeholders are included in the planning of this parent night. Professionals from local colleges, social agencies, judicial and law enforcement, and medical facilities present topics in a small workshop atmosphere at our high school. Participants choose workshops that interest them. Past topics have included suicide prevention, teen pregnancy, prescription drug abuse, partying and binge drinking, depression, internet safety, sexting, developmental issues of teens, and how to communicate with your teen. This event is held annually and has been successful in opening a real dialogue between our schools, parents, community and students. The Neosho community is indeed energized by this event and the event has strengthened our ties. Now that we are all in the "know", we are working together to help our kids. We are continually working to see how we can help keep our partnerships strong and make a difference in our community.
