Community Collaboration is in Fashion at NHS
The Fashion Show is the fruition of an idea from a sewing student who wanted to bring students together to show off their creations, reach out to the community, and to energize students to take a closer look at the clothes they wear. The event was completely student-led, from securing a date and use of school facilities to conducting meetings of up to 20 students to coordinating the actual show. The students sent the proceeds of this first show to help earthquake victims in Haiti and Chile and its second to a local food pantry. Now in its third year, the Fashion Show is involving even more students and community members. This year there were over 30 students who planned, created projects to be modeled, or worked the event; and students recruited community business sponsors and a retailer to provide additional clothing for the show. The night also included the National Honor Society's sale of previously worn Prom Dresses, and FCCLA served refreshments. All proceeds are being donated to support a Northwest student battling cancer. The project provided an opportunity for many students, some not involved in any other school activities, to take pride in a job well done.
