OES Parent Speaker Series
The OES Parent Speaker Series started as a collaborative effort between the school staff and the OES Parent Teacher Organization. During the 2011-2012 school year, parents have visited the school on a monthly basis to discuss their career choices, the schooling that has been necessary to achieve those careers, and the character traits that make them successful in those professions. These sessions are held before school. Parents present information about their careers to the students and then join students for breakfast. This has allowed numerous parents to participate because it does not impact their work schedules and starts the day with insightful conversation for the OES students. The speaker series has exposed students to career pathways they may not have been aware of from their own family experiences and may not be typically explored during classroom instruction.
