It's Not Just World Literature; It's World Change.
Since English II focuses on multicultural literature, we use this project to allow students to expand their knowledge of the various cultures whose literature they read throughout the year. During the project, students work in groups to examine events of tragedy such as genocide, famine, slave labor, etc. currently occurring around the world. Once research is completed, students create poster board and multimedia presentations and display their work in the library on World Change Day. During this event, student-presenters educate other classes of students whose teachers bring them to the library. While in the library, event attendees learn about each of the world situations as they view each display and listen to and ask questions of the student-presenters. All event attendees vote on which issue they believe is the most in need of financial support and at the end of the day, all money raised is donated to a charity organization that supports the "winning" issue.
