Peers Making Peace (PMP)
Peers Making Peace (PMP) is a highly structured, skill-based, peer-led mediation program. All training and activities are research- and evidence-based, age and developmentally appropriate, and based on the latest research relating to how children learn and process information at different developmental stages. PMP does not detract from regular instruction but rather molds itself into the character of the school, utilizing students as vehicles of change. In a show of citizenship, the trained students apply their new knowledge by serving as third party mediators to help disputants in conflict reach mutually acceptable agreements, helping them take responsibility for their actions. Also learning and developing ideas of respect and confidentiality, the mediators are able to exhibit fairness and gain the trust of their fellow peers through the process. The PMP program provides the training and skills necessary for readily available, effective and caring mediators to improve their school's culture and help their peers reach their potential to succeed and grow into healthy, confident adults.
