Stepping Stones To Character
We believe that positive character traits must be deliberately taught to children using a creative approach that excites and provokes the desire to act in them. With that guiding belief, Rocky Branch Elementary developed our Stepping Stones to Character program. All students and staff ( 500+) gather in the gym for a 20 minute program. The event follows a set formula. As the students gather in the gym our theme song "I Gotta Feeling" by the Black Eyed Peas is played. Children join in the chorus as the energy builds. Our principal welcomes the group and introduces that month's trait, defining and illustrating with examples, using kid-friendly language. A film clip or You Tube video featuring the trait is viewed and processed. We recite our school touchstone, our guiding principles regarding positive character. The students and staff perform our school "Character Flash Mob" dance.
