Sullivan Primary School
Sullivan, Missouri

Are you "Expecting?" A special "Delivery" for you!
Students at the Sullivan Primary School, grades PK-1, fashioned a service-learning project partnering with the Sullivan Missouri Baptist Hospital's maternity ward to provide future mothers and babies about "What to Expect in Five Years at Sullivan Primary." Hand-made baby blankets, hats, and classroom illustrated books were given to the new families. The goal of this service learning project was to give students the ability to recognize character traits, opportunity to transfer skills learned, and apply those skills in writing baby books telling new mothers and babies what they can expect at the Sullivan Primary school in five years. The process for preparation was using literature as a curricular basis in creating classroom books, making the blankets, hats, and planning the service-learning project. The students at Sullivan Primary came up with this service-learning project after Missouri Baptist Hospital asked SPS to create artwork for the newly-added maternity wing.
