Truman's Camp Character
Students and faculty from Truman join together to participate in Camp Character, a series of days that emphasize the importance of how to be considerate of others and make core values come alive. On the first day of school, students all report to their advisory class. They participate in activities where they generate ideas and discuss how to be considerate of others in class, in the halls, in the cafeteria and as spectators during activities by practicing self-control, integrity and responsibility. They also attend sessions with their counselors and administrators on the expectations of the building and regarding helpful hints on how to be a successful Patriot. In October, students experienced a Camp Character Booster Shot in their advisory classes. They assessed how well they were practicing the character traits in school. Discussions and activities regarding the traits were extended into how students treated each other online and how these traits transferred to the work place. In March, students have a final booster shot, discussing how to make key traits be a part of their Patriot "walk" -- not just their "talk". They also decorate the school for an upcoming convention.
