Family Character
The Family Character activity is a one-page sheet that is sent home attached to the Friday Notes: a bi-weekly parent newsletter. The Family Character activity focuses on the monthly character trait and includes several activities for families to do together. The first part of the sheet is an explanation of the character trait being discussed. Several discussion questions are included for the family to have conversations about at home. For example, one of the questions regarding "responsibility" asks "In what ways do you show responsibility...with your family, at work and with your friends?" Students have the option to write down their answers if they would like to. Another part of the sheet offers examples about how to model the character trait in everyday activities. Several quotes focusing on the character trait are included and are also encouraged to have discussions about. Students are asked to bring the bottom part of the sheet to hand to the school counselor with their parent signature to show that they have participated in discussions with their parent/s. There is also room for parents to make comments.
