Omode Character Education Writing Contest
Omode, our school's character education song, addresses each of our school's core values and is sung at various assemblies throughout the year. While all students explore these core values throughout the year, in music class each grade level is assigned a verse of the song on which to focus. As a culminating activity and end-of-year assessment of our character education initiative, students complete a writing assignment related to their grade level's verse of Omode. Students are asked to write about their grade-level's core value, and to make sure their work product is powerful, well-written, written from the heart, addresses the core value, and describes what their value looks like, sounds like, and feels like. Kindergarten's writing prompt focuses on manners and common courtesies. The first grade prompt focuses on kindness, caring and compassion. Second grade focuses on courage and perseverance. Third grade: honesty and integrity, and so on. This writing contest is sponsored by WPESA, our parent organization, judged by our Climate Action Team, and supported by the entire learning community.
