International Service Learning Project
The children at Wilton Manors Elementary and the children in Coba, Mexico created their mosaic pieces for the murals to exchange, based on the 12 traits of Passport to Peace, to create the vision that each city would have a mosaic mural made in part by the children from Coba, and in part by the children from Wilton Manors, Florida. The main outcomes of this project are that the students of Wilton Manors will serve as an example to others, that we can share and promote respect between cultures, that we can develop an acceptance of others, and that we can become aware of the importance of having an international/global outlook. They demonstrated to the children of the community of Coba the twelve Character Traits of the Passport to Peace Program, and it has now become a common language between the children of these two vastly different cultures. They participated in personal reflection activities and video diaries that will project their level of tolerance, respect, and cooperation to the community in which they live. And, as an enduring legacy to this project all future children at Wilton Manors Elementary and in Coba will forever have a mosaic mural.
